Digital transformation is increasingly becoming a strategic investment rather than simply an operational upgrade, and the Central Bank of Eswatini’s latest continental recognition demonstrates the value of investing in modern financial and administrative systems.
The Bank has been named the winner of the CIPS Africa Best Use of Digital Technology Award for its innovative e-Procurement System, a platform that enables prospective vendors and service providers to submit quotations electronically for goods and services. The recognition places Eswatini among African institutions that are leveraging technology to modernize procurement while improving operational efficiency.
The award was presented during a ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the Central Bank was represented by its Finance Department under the leadership of Chief Financial Officer Isabel Da Silva.

Beyond the recognition itself, the achievement reflects a broader shift towards digital governance within financial institutions. Procurement has traditionally been characterized by paper-based processes, lengthy administrative procedures, and higher transaction costs. Digital procurement systems reduce these inefficiencies by streamlining supplier engagement, improving record management, and strengthening accountability throughout the procurement cycle.
For businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, digital procurement platforms can also lower barriers to participation by making tender opportunities and quotation processes more accessible. This creates a more competitive supplier environment while supporting fair and transparent procurement practices.
Speaking after receiving the award, Chief Financial Officer Isabel Da Silva described the recognition as the result of sustained collaboration and innovation across the institution.
“Winning this award is a proud milestone and a reflection of the dedication, collaboration, and innovation behind our e-Procurement System. What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it reflects the hard work of a team that worked tirelessly to transform how we do things. The journey had its challenges, but our shared commitment and perseverance made this achievement possible.”
She also congratulated all employees who contributed to the project and expressed appreciation to CIPS Africa for recognizing the Bank’s efforts.

From a financial management perspective, investments in procurement technology deliver value beyond cost savings. Digital systems enhance audit readiness, improve compliance with procurement policies, strengthen internal controls, and generate data that supports more informed decision-making. These efficiencies are increasingly important for institutions responsible for managing public resources and maintaining stakeholder confidence.
The award also reinforces the Central Bank of Eswatini’s commitment to operational excellence at a time when financial institutions across Africa are accelerating digital transformation initiatives. As governments and regulators place greater emphasis on transparency, efficiency, and governance, technology-enabled procurement is becoming an essential component of institutional resilience.
For Eswatini, the continental recognition serves as evidence that local institutions can successfully develop and implement digital solutions that meet international standards. It also signals the country’s growing capability to use technology not only to improve internal operations, but also to create a more efficient and competitive business environment for suppliers and service providers.
